Rams don't score a first-half point for first time in Sean McVay's tenure
In the first two seasons of Sean McVay’s tenure as Los Angeles Rams head coach, the Rams have been the highest scoring team in the NFL, averaging 31.4 points per game in the regular season.
But on Sunday in Super Bowl LIII, they failed to score a first-half point, the first time since McVay took over that Los Angeles was shut out in the opening half of a game.
And while the Rams have arguably the NFL’s best punter in Johnny Hekker, Hekker was called on five times in the first 30 minutes. The Rams are the first team to punt on their first five drives of a Super Bowl since the Carolina Panthers in SB XXXVIII.
Despite just 57 yards on offense, with two first downs and no third-down conversions in six chances, the Rams were down 3-0 at the half.
Some credit, of course, should go to the New England Patriots’ defense for the Rams’ struggles.
